The King's Bargain

The Dark Lord

The Dark Lord is a towering figure draped in tattered black robes that seem to be woven from living shadows. His face is hidden beneath a cracked obsidian mask with glowing crimson eyes burning from within. His voice echoes as though a hundred people are speaking in perfect unison. Wherever he walks, the air grows colder, lights dim, and silence falls over birds and animals alike.

His armor is forged from a mysterious black metal streaked with glowing red cracks, as if molten fire flows beneath its surface. A long, weathered cape trails behind him like smoke, never touching the ground. In one hand he carries Nightfall, a sword said to drink light itself, while his other hand can summon darkness into solid forms—chains, spears, or monstrous creatures.

His greatest power is not strength but fear. He

can sense a person's deepest regret and use it against them, creating terrifying illusions that make enemies question what is real.

Backstory

Long before kingdoms rose, there was a brilliant scholar named Kaelor, a guardian of ancient knowledge. He believed death, suffering, and war existed because the world was ruled by chance. Obsessed with creating a perfect world, he searched for a legendary relic known as The Heart of the Abyss, a crystal said to grant limitless power.

The legends warned that the crystal did not grant wishes—it amplified the darkness already hidden within a person's soul.

Ignoring every warning, Kaelor claimed the relic. Instead of becoming humanity's savior, he became its greatest nightmare.

The crystal consumed his humanity piece by piece. His skin turned to ash, his heart stopped beating, and his shadow separated from his body, becoming a living extension of his will. The people who once praised him fled in terror, giving him a new name:

The Dark Lord.

For centuries he disappeared into the ruined fortress known as Black Hollow Keep, where he gathered forgotten monsters, corrupted kings, and desperate souls who sought power at any cost.

But the Dark Lord does not want to destroy the world.

He wants to remake it.

He believes that freedom is the source of suffering and that only by ruling every living creature can there finally be peace. To him, every conquest is an act of mercy, and every victim is simply someone who refused salvation.

As whispers spread that the Heart of the Abyss has begun to awaken again, heroes from every kingdom realize a terrifying truth:

The Dark Lord was never defeated. He was only waiting.

The Dark Lord Chronicles

Episode 1: The King's Bargain

The kingdom of Valoria had stood for a thousand years.

Its golden towers stretched toward the heavens, its armies were legendary, and its people once believed their land could never fall.

Then came King Maldrick.

Unlike the rulers before him, Maldrick did not want to protect Valoria.

He wanted to own it.

He raised taxes until families had nothing left. He imprisoned anyone who questioned his commands. He sent soldiers into villages not to defend them—but to remind them who controlled their lives.

But even a tyrant can become afraid.

Across the mountains came news of an army unlike anything Valoria had ever faced. The neighboring kingdoms had united against Maldrick, and his own generals began secretly planning his removal.

For the first time in years, the king felt powerless.

One night, while searching through forbidden royal archives, Maldrick discovered an ancient scroll hidden beneath the castle.

The words were written in black ink that seemed to move on the page:

"When kingdoms fall and kings lose their crowns, seek the one who commands the darkness. Seek the Dark Lord."

The scroll described a place no living person dared enter:

Black Hollow Keep.

The Journey Into Darkness

Maldrick rode alone into the dead forest beyond the mountains.

The trees twisted toward him as if watching.

The wind whispered his name.

After three days, he found it.

A fortress carved into the side of a black mountain.

No guards stood at the entrance.

No gates blocked his path.

The doors opened by themselves.

Inside, thousands of candles burned with black flames.

Then came a voice.

"You have traveled far, little king."

Maldrick turned.

Standing at the end of the hall was the figure from the legends.

The Dark Lord.

The king tried to appear fearless.

"I have come to request your assistance."

The Dark Lord slowly walked forward.

"Kings do not request. They beg." Maldrick clenched his fist.

"I need an army. I need my enemies destroyed."

The Dark Lord tilted his head.

"And what will you offer in return?"

"I will give you gold."

"I have no use for gold."

"My kingdom."

"You misunderstand me."

The Dark Lord stepped closer.

"I do not want what you own. I want what you become."

The Contract

The Dark Lord placed a black scroll on the table.

"Sign this, and your enemies will fall."

Maldrick smiled.

"That is all?"

The Dark Lord's glowing eyes narrowed.

"That is all... for now."

The king signed.

The moment the ink touched the paper, the castle shook.

Far away, in Valoria, every enemy soldier suddenly fell unconscious. Their weapons shattered. Their commanders abandoned their armies. Within a week, Maldrick's enemies were defeated.

The people celebrated.

They thought their king had saved them.

They were wrong.

Because the Dark Lord's army did not disappear.

They marched into Valoria.

Not to conquer it.

To collect it.

The King's Mistake

Maldrick stood on his castle balcony as thousands of shadow warriors surrounded his kingdom.

"What is this?" he demanded. The Dark Lord appeared behind him.

"You asked for victory."

"I asked you to destroy my enemies!"

"And I did."

"Then leave!"

The Dark Lord looked across the kingdom.

"You believed you hired me as a servant."

A pause.

"But darkness does not serve kings."

Maldrick stepped back.

"What do you want?"

The Dark Lord looked at the crown on his head.

"Your throne was never yours. It was simply waiting for me."

That night, the kingdom of Valoria fell.

The people thought King Maldrick had lost his war.

The truth was far worse.

He had won it...

for the Dark Lord.
